Mail Call for 4/10

Editor's note - Please be as brief as possible when calling Mail Call, The Daily Mail's reader call-in line.

You are welcome to leave a recorded message on any subject, but some calls will be screened out.

Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"I was involved in an automobile accident at the corner of Nottingham and Washington Avenue, where the Texaco station is. If anyone saw the accident, could you give me a call because I am being accused of the accident. Call me at 301-766-0146. Thanks."

"Can't anyone do something about all the riff-raff in front of the library? People hanging out, mooching money, some of them drinking. It is no wonder people don't want to go downtown and have to deal with people like that."

"Can someone help me get rid of the ground moles? I have a lot of them and I don't know how to get rid of them. Call Mail Call and let me know."

"This county is setting the educational standards for handicapped and disabled children back 20 years. They were talking about taking away Marshall Street from the children with special needs. Also, treating handicapped kids as if they didn't matter isn't right. Marshall Street should not be used as a regular elementary school. Parents 20 years ago fought long and hard to get two schools in this county dedicated toward children with special needs. Now they are talking about taking it away so a larger elementary school can be made for the kids without special needs. What kind of statement is that making about kids with disabilities? What are we teaching our children, that they are secondary citizens and that they are not important?"

"I am calling about the area down by the Dual Highway Car Wash. There are people putting trash out on the street after trash night is already over. They are putting stuff out that is big, like TVs, sofas, stuff that they are not going to take. If anyone knows of a number that I can call about this mess, leave it in Mail Call."

"Great news. I see where there are no more handicapped kids being born in Washington County. We no longer need Marshall Street School, we are turning it over to 'Normal Children.' That means no more handicapped children being born in Washington County."

"Congratulations to Sarah, homeschooled, on her completion of her first year at Hagerstown Community College, also to her family for their dedication to education."

"I am calling about the Mail Call about the when the kids get out. They get out on June 12. Also, I know that Bob Fleenor won on 'Jeopardy!' and he did very well, but they did not mention where he worked on the show. I wonder why?"

(Editor's note - "Jeopardy!" contestants are not allowed to give their place of employment on the show.)

"I wish the kids that play basketball on Brookridge Drive in Boonsboro would have a little bit of respect for the drivers when they come by. They don't even attempt to get out of the way. I wish that the parents would see that they respect the cars that go by."

- Boonsboro

"I am a bus driver and I have been driving for 23 years and the children are getting worse and worse. Where are the parents that send these children to school with these with these big clothes on? I had a boy get off the bus and his pants fell down. The Board of Education told us that we have to dress decent, why don't the children have to dress the same way. They have to know that they have them because they wash them."

"I am a parent of a child in the seventh grade. My child has two and a half hours of homework each night. What does this teacher do during the day? This is why the grades are dropping. They don't have any time to play in the evening."
