Local Roundup - Barnes' single lifts Greencastle


GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Jeremy Barnes' RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning lifted No. 2 Greencastle-Antrim to a 6-5 victory over Biglerville on Monday.

Barnes had walked in three previous at-bats, but after Biglerville scored twice in the top of the sixth to take a 5-4 lead, Barnes' base hit was the difference for the Blue Devils (6-0).

Tony Showalter had a two-run double in the first inning, while Skylar Group went 2-for-3, scored twice and stole a base for Greencastle. Brad Fitz earned the win in relief, his third victory this season.

Nick Adenhart struck out 10 and allowed three hits, one walk and three earned runs in a complete game win for St. Maria Goretti over Grace Academy at the Hagerstown Colt League field.

Josh Carter hit a solo homer in the fourth inning, while Justin Staubs had two hits and Phil Wenner, John Szallay had two RBI for the Gaels (2-4).

Mitchell Hardy hit a two-run homer in the seventh for Grace.
