Prayer explored in church forum



SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Ann Z. Kulp, a member of the associate staff of the Shalom Institute for Spiritual Formation in Bethesda, Md., will be the presenter at a forum sponsored by Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church, April 20-21.

Kulp will discuss various forms of prayer in a workshop format entitled "Spirit Windows: Exploring the Contemplative Path."

The forum, which is free and open to the public, will be held Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Due to construction on the education wing of the church, the forum will be held at St. Agnes Catholic Parish House at 216 S. Duke St. in Shepherdstown.

Kulp, who is author of "Spirit Windows: A Handbook of Spiritual Growth: Resources for Leaders," holds a master's degree in counseling and a doctor of ministry degree in spiritual direction. She has 20 years of experience in leading retreats and workshops and more than 10 years of experience in the field of contemplative prayer and spiritual direction.

The April forum is part of a series developed by Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church for adults interested in theological education. The next scheduled event will be July 10, 11, and 12, when three different lecturers will discuss ecology and religion. Presenters at that event will include Douglas Ottati of Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Va.; George Fisher of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and acclaimed novelist Denise Giardina, author of "The Unquiet Earth and Saints and Villains."
