Rocking Chair-ity earns more than $10,000

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Sitting down on the job raised more than $10,000 for the Auxiliary of City Hospital on Saturday.

The third annual Rocking Chair-ity was held outside the Cracker Barrel, with more than 80 people rocking for a period of time to raise pledged money.

The auxiliary hoped to raise $10,000 for a new treadmill and Dinamap, which monitors vital signs. By mid-afternoon, they had passed that goal, said Rose Straley, director of volunteers for the hospital.

In addition to the pledges, customers of the restaurant, which features a long row of rocking chairs in its front porch, donated money.

A final amount raised was not available Saturday night.

This is the third year for the event, which raised $6,000 in its first year and $8,000 last year.
