Roundup - VanBrakle fires perfect game


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Steph VanBrakle threw a perfect game, striking out 11 in a row as No. 1 Chambersburg trounced Big Spring 13-0 on Wednesday.

VanBrakle helped her cause with two home runs, including a grand slam in the first inning, and drove in six runs. Jen Swartz also had two hits for Chambersburg (4-0, 2-0).

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Tabi Merceruio capped a three-run sixth with a two-run single and struck out nine in her first game of the season as the Bulldogs won their Apple Valley League opener.

Jamie Griffin doubled and scored on Kim Slaughter's single before Lawren Scales and Christee Anderson reached to set up Merceruio's hit for Martinsburg (1-1, 1-0). Jamie Waugh struck out three and allowed only five hits for Berkeley Springs (4-2, 2-1).

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - The Indians stole home twice in the second inning and A.J. Freelove extended his scoreless streak to 13 innings.

Freelove struck out seven and allowed just four hits in six innings and Adam Caron and Ben Leonard both had RBI singles in the five-run second for Waynesboro (3-1, 1-0 Mid Penn Commonwealth).

Adam Witter drove in two, the second on a double in the fifth, and Chad Braniff threw a complete game for his first win of the season for Chambersburg (3-2, 2-0).
