New kitchen towels can brighten a room

How can you spruce up your kitchen for spring?

Heloise recently saw wonderful new appliances at an international housewares show in Chicago. But she likes the appliances she has.

"I'm not going to buy a new blender," she says.

She met a woman who has different colored sets of kitchen towels for every season. "It tricks out my kitchen," she told Heloise.

Then Heloise looked at some of her aging kitchen towels.

"Yep. It's time," she said.

She bought two sets of towels, and recommends buying a new oven mitt - "while you're at it."

It's minor - less than $5 or $10 - but it dresses up the kitchen, she said.

New throw-rugs can brighten a room without too much expense. But Heloise offered a caution: The rubber backing on some rugs can cause no-wax floors to yellow.
