City Council briefs

This month is Fair Housing Month in Hagerstown.

Mayor Robert E. Bruchey II on Tuesday proclaimed April 2001 Fair Housing Month in Hagerstown.

Bruchey stood with representatives from the Hagerstown Home Store when he made the proclamation at the beginning of Tuesday's council meeting.

The Hagerstown City Council voted 4-0 Tuesday to approve a $12,388 contract for the construction of a parking lot on South Locust Street.

The five-space parking lot will be on the first block of South Locust Street.

Callas Contractors in Hagerstown was awarded the construction contract.

Councilman J. Wallace McClure did not vote on the contract because he was not at the Tuesday meeting.

McClure was recovering from surgery he had on his left hand Tuesday morning.

McClure said he suffers from a condition that causes scar-like tissue to build up in his hand. If untreated, the condition could render some of McClure's fingers useless.
