HANCOCK - Heather Klinefelter beat the throw home on a fielder's choice grounder in the seventh inning as Hancock rallied late for a 4-3 victory over Beall on Friday in the season opener for both teams.

In the seventh, Klinefelter singled, went to second on a passed ball, but had to hold up at third on Amber Fields' sharp double. Klinefelter then scored on winning pitcher Beth Sterner's grounder to first base.

Down 3-1 in the sixth, Hancock got two runs, including the game-tying run with two outs when Kate Pittman crashed into the catcher and scored on Cassy Binagman's double.

Walkersville 13, Williamsport 4

WILLIAMSPORT - Janet Patterson went 2-for-4 with an RBI as Walkersville took advantage of 10 walks for a victory over Williamsport in both team's opening game.


Jackie Klinger pitched a complete-game three-hitter, striking out nine while walking eight for the Lions.

Shawna Wilkes struck out 13 in a four-hitter and started the Cougars' game-icing rally in the sixth to open the season for both teams. Alison Higgs struck out eight four South, which made nine errors, most of them costly in the final two innings.

Joanna Kline had three hits, Emily Enders homered and had two RBI and Shannon Sturtz finished with two hits with three RBI for Middletown.
