Man who refused test faces DUI count

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Chambersburg man was charged with driving under the influence after refusing to take a blood alcohol test Sunday morning, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Police charged Steven Schuchman with driving under the influence and disorderly conduct.

His driver's license will automatically be revoked for one year because he refused a blood test at Chambersburg Hospital, police said.

Police stopped Schuchman around 1:45 a.m. on Letterkenny Road at May-Mar Drive in Hamilton Township.

Schuchman was transported to the hospital for the test, but refused. He was then brought to the police station and charges were filed, police said.

Man faces two sex-related charges

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Chambersburg man has been charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and indecent assault after a seven-month relationship with a juvenile, Pennsylvania State Police said.


Between March 11, 1999, and Oct. 20, 1999, the man allegedly had inappropriate sexual contact with a 13-year-old at an undisclosed location in Franklin County, police said.

Charges were filed Monday at District Justice Shirley Shatzer's office in Greencastle, Pa., police said.

No further information was available.

Accidental blaze damages craft store

NEW MARKET, Md. - An accidental fire at a Frederick County, Md. craft store Wednesday caused $30,000 in damage, according to fire investigators.

An electrical appliance malfunctioned causing a fire at The Holly Craft Gift Shop on Old National Pike Wednesday at 6:48 a.m., an investigator with the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal said.

The fire caused a plastic water pipe to burst, which kept the fire from spreading until firefighters arrived, investigators said.

Police investigate Hagerstown thefts

Hagerstown City Police were investigating several thefts in the city.

Police said a man took items from a shelf and left without paying.

Wind gust peels part of roof from house

BOLIVAR, W.Va. - Part of a metal roof on a house was peeled back when a wind gust hit Bolivar about 1 p.m. Wednesday, according to a fire official.

About half of the roof was peeled back, said Scott Biller, captain of the Friendship Fire Co. Firefighters spread tarps over the open section of the roof to protect the house from rain, said Biller.

Biller said he did not know who lived in the house on Jefferson Street.
