Two won't run again for school board

Two familiar names will be missing from the May 15 primary ballots on the Waynesboro Area School Board with Long-time Board President Robert Ternes and member Hector Gomez choosing not to seek re-election.

Even with their exits there will be no contest in the school board election this year with four candidates seeking the four available seats. Incumbents Leland Lemley and Stan Barkdoll will run again. The two new candidates are Christopher Devers and John R. Fitz.

Four candidates filed petitions for the four seats up for election this year on the Greencastle-Antrim School District. Incumbent Robert Luger decided not to seek re-election.

Three of the four Greencastle-Antrim candidates are incumbents, including Joan O'Keefe, Pamela D. Ott, and Kenneth H. Rhoe. The newcomer on the primary ballot will be Edward T. Seidel.

There is a contest for the four school board seats in the Tuscarora School District in Mercersburg. At first six candidates had filed for the primary, but last week Janis M. Hawbaker, a board incumbent, withdrew her petition, according to Franklin County election officials. Her withdrawal still leaves five candidates, including three incumbents, going after the four available seats.

The incumbents seeking re-election are Roger W. Price, Jane M. Rice and Jeffrey L. Speidel. The two challengers are Darlene Kriner and Steven W. Myers.

All of the candidates in the three districts have cross-filed with both parties, election officials said.
