BOE could vote on consolidation meetings today

The Washington County School Board could vote today on the dates and places of four public meetings to be held on school consolidation.

The meetings are expected to be held from April to June.

The board will meet at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. at its central office on Commonwealth Avenue.

The board is considering consolidating Smithsburg and Cascade, Winter Street and Salem Avenue, Maugansville and Conococheague and Emma K. Doub, Fountain Rock and Funkstown elementary schools.

Cascade, Winter Street, Maugansville, Conococheague and Funkstown would close under the plan.

A new school would be built toward Cearfoss to house Maugansville and Conococheague students.
