Pauline A. Kane

Pauline Annabelle Kane, 75, of 1304 Pennsylvania Ave., and formerly of Alexander House, 7 E. Washington St., Hagerstown, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at Coffman Nursing Home.

Born March 17, 1926, in Security, Md., she was the daughter of the late Philip Lester and Sherdie Ellen Misner Wolfe.

Her first husband, William J. Mitchell Sr., died in 1957. Her second husband, Leroy C. Kane, died in 1985.

She had been the resident manager of the Patterson Hotel.

She was a member of Baptist Temple.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ellen Koberouski of Hagerstown; two granddaughters, Kimberly A. Lochard and Donna J. Maldonado, both of Hagerstown; two grandsons, David L. Summers of Chambersburg, Pa., and Kent E. Hewitt of Hagerstown; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sisters and brothers.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Daris W. Ford will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.




Trevor M. Hawks

Trevor Michael Hawks, infant son of Matthew Scott Cromer Sr. and Shawna Elaine Hawks of Hagerstown, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at Washington County Hospital.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Sabrina Lynn Comer, at home; two brothers, Matthew Scott Cromer Jr. and Dustin William Hawks, both at home; maternal grandmother, Rhonda Kay Hawks of Clear Spring; maternal grandfather, Gregory Allen Hawks Sr. of Hagerstown; paternal grandmother, Janet Galla of McKeesport, Pa.; maternal great-grandparents, Ronald and Barbara Curry of Hagerstown; maternal great-great-grandmother, Peggy Green of Hagerstown; an aunt and an uncle.

He was preceded in death by paternal great-great-grandfather, Leslie Hawks.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert C. Lehman will officiate.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made c/o of Jackie Sprecher, 123 Elm St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Merle E. Coons

CONCORD, Pa. - Merle E. Coons, 65, of Main Street, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born May 8, 1935, in Concord, he was the son of the late Charles W. and Clara Yocum Coons.

He was an electrician at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, retiring in 1991 after 30 years.

He served in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean War.

He was a Protestant.

He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division Association Central Pennsylvania Chapter.

He is survived by his wife, Leona B. Scott Coons, whom he married Aug. 9, 1960; a daughter, Nicole L. Wrights of Shippensburg, Pa.; two sons, Mark A. Coons of Blairs Mills, Pa., and Luke D. Coons of Spring Run, Pa.; three sisters, Pauline George of Willow Hill, Pa., Marion Sanders of Chambersburg, and Velma Weiser of Newville, Pa.; a brother, Norman Coons of Nyesville, Pa.; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at John L. Agett Funeral Home, 18875 Main St., Dry Run, Pa. The Rev. Judy Rowles will officiate. Burial will be in Concord Union Cemetery, Concord, with military services by McCartney Post 232 American Legion Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mary E. Houpt

Mary Elizabeth Houpt, 85, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at Julia Manor Health Care Center.

Born Nov. 30, 1915, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Christian and Katherine Wedding Ebersole.

Her husband, Winter Louis Houpt, died in 1996. They were married April 12, 1946.

She and her husband co-founded West End Baptist Chapel. She participated in the local, state and national level of the church.

She formerly taught a Bible study at Julia Manor, and was a member of the Rescue Mission Auxiliary.

She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Lee Haney of Hagerstown; and cousins.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at West End Baptist Chapel, 101 Buena Vista Ave., Hagerstown. The Revs. Shane Wilt and James Swecker will officiate.

Dorothy B. Crawford

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Dorothy B. Crawford, 79, of 450 S. Fourth St., died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at ManorCare Health Services in Chambersburg.

Born Jan. 7, 1922, in Shippensburg, Pa., she was the daughter of Elva Crusey Bowings of Chambersburg and the late William Bowings.

Her husband, Edwin R. Crawford, died in 1950.
