Insurance proposal could save $500,000

Washington County could save as much as a half-million dollars a year by using the same health insurance provider for all county, public schools and Hagerstown Community College employees, according to the County Commissioners.

Washington County should have a recommendation on the health insurance consolidation by early April, said Alan Davis, the county's human resources director.

The county recently received bids on the proposal and is interviewing and negotiating with several finalists, Davis said.

Commissioners have said that employees' existing health insurance benefits would not change under the proposed plan.

The Washington County School Board and college administrators will have the choice of opting out of a partnership if they don't like what they see when a recommendation is made, the commissioners have said.
