Checkpoint operation leads to two arrests in Martinsburg



MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A highway safety checkpoint set up by the Martinsburg Police Department produced more than 50 citations and two arrests Sunday afternoon .

Police set up the checkpoint in the 800 block of Winchester Avenue at noon in response to citizen complaints and previous observations by police. Officers checked driver's licenses, registrations, insurance and inspection records.

Officers checked 526 vehicles during the nearly four-hour check, and 51 citations were issued.

Two people were charged, one with driving while under the influence and another with operating a vehicle with no proof of insurance.

Ten police officers and four members of the Explorer Post helped in the work.
