WILLIAMSPORT - The Williamsport Town Council on Monday appointed Tim Ammons to serve the remainder of former Councilman Earle R. Pereschuk Sr.'s term.

Pereschuk resigned his council seat in February to run for mayor, but lost his bid against longtime Mayor John W. Slayman in the March 5 election.

Ammons, 24, of 21 N. Vermont St., is an Allegheny Energy employee.

He said he agreed to serve the remaining two years of Pereschuk's term because he wants to "help prepare the town for the future."

Slayman swore Ammons into office prior to Monday night's Town Council meeting.
