BOONSBORO - Ten Washington County school teams were among the 12 first-place winners Saturday in the 2001 Western Regional Competition of Destination ImagiNation at the Boonsboro Educational Complex.

The competition, formerly known as Odyssey of the Mind, challenges students to creatively solve a problem within a time limit.

Teams that finished first, second or third in their category will proceed to the state competition on April 21, said Regional Director Becky Leverett. The state contest's main site is at the University of Maryland Baltimore County.

The regional competition covered Washington, Frederick, Carroll, Allegany and Garrett counties.

For the Mystery Loves Company problem, students were to create a mechanical or technical communication device and conduct a scientific experiment while crafting a mystery story.
