She prepared her Santa Fe Beef Bruschetta for judges Gail Cissna, food editor at Frederick News Post; Sandy Corridon, extension educator with Frederick County Cooperative Extension; and Lynn F. Little, a family and consumer sciences extension educator for Maryland Cooperative Extension, Washington County.

The other finalist - Steven Weeks of Bel Air, Md. - prepared his Beef-Zucchini Bake.

Farr won $250 and Weeks won $150, said Anita W. Thomas, director of education and promotion for Maryland Beef Council.

Farr is a veteran of the state competition. Two years ago, she won the Maryland Beef Cook-Off and was a finalist at the national level, Thomas said.

The state cooking contest was the first for Weeks.

The Maryland Beef Cook-Off was a preliminary to the National Beef Cook-Off until 1999, Thomas said. Now it's establishing itself as an independent contest, she said.

Farr and Weeks were two of three people who submitted original recipes for the contest, sponsored by Maryland Beef Council. The third contestant was unable to attend the cook-off, Thomas said.
