Indians fall just short in Pa. District 5 final

* GIRLS BASKETBALL

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - No. 6 Southern Fulton fell behind 19-4 in the first quarter Thursday and could not rally in the Pa. District 5 Championship, falling to Berlin, 51-46.

Despite the early deficit, the Indians (21-6) clawed their way back into the game, but never got over the hump.

We were only down six going into the half, which was very good because we didn't shoot the ball very well," Southern Fulton coach Mark Mellott said.

Down by 10 with two minutes left, Megan White gave the the Indians a ray of hope by hitting four 3-pointers down the stretch, finishing with 17 points. But Berlin made 4 of 6 foul shots late to seal the win.

"The girls really gave a heck of an effort," Mellott said. "The fourth quarter, I thought we had a chance in the end to come back. We just couldn't do it."
