Man gets 18 to 84 months for car theft

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Pennsylvania man with a history of burglary and theft charges will spend more time in jail for his role in the theft of a Shippensburg, Pa., man's car last year.

Edward Vincent Creighton, 44, was sentenced to from 18 to 84 months in the State Correctional Institution Wednesday in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas.

Judge Carol Van Horn agreed to make the sentence concurrent with any additional time Creighton will serve for violating the conditions of his probation for an earlier crime.

Creighton pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property in connection with the theft of a 1978 Buick LeSabre on Feb. 6, 2000.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Creighton and a woman arrived at Ronald Hutchinson's home at 11342 Old Mill Road around 9:30 p.m. and said he was having car troubles.

While Creighton was fixing his car, the woman went inside Hutchinson's home. The two left a short time later, but Hutchinson said he did not realize until the following day his car was gone.

Creighton was later found in St. Augustine, Fla., in the victim's vehicle. He was extradited to Pennsylvania.

Van Horn also ordered Creighton to pay the victim about $900 in restitution.
