Two lines of presidential poetry could win $100

Hagers-Town Town and Country Almanack has published "Presidents' Poem" since the Almanack was introduced by founder John Gruber in 1851. Originally 14 lines long, beginning with Washington and ending with Filmore, the editor has come up with a rhyming couplet every four years for the newest occupant of the White House.

This year the Almanack is inviting young readers in grades one through nine to write the two lines honoring George W. Bush, the 43rd president. The best entry will receive $100. Honorable mentions will earn six copies of the 2002 Almanack.

Entries must include the entrant's grade and name of school.

Send entries to C.W. Fisher, 132 Trout Run, Arlington, Vt. 05250-8862.
