Anniversary Announcements for 2/24



The Martins


Mr. and Mrs. A. James Martin of Smithsburg celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at Cozy Restaurant in Thurmont, Md.

Their three daughters and spouses, Joann and Harold Willard of Foxville, Md.; Beverly and Dave Smith near Leitersburg; and Sharon and Mike Johnston of Sykesville, Md., attended the event. Some of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren also attended.

The Martins were married Nov. 9, 1940, in Smithsburg by the Rev. C.M. Huddle, now deceased.

Pauline "Polly" Martin is the daughter of the late Theodore and Edith (Barkman) Kline. She is a homemaker.

Abraham "Jimmy" Martin is the son of the late Paul and Pearl (Kinsey) Martin. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked at Fairchild, Pangborn, Grove Manufacturing and Waynesboro Design before his retirement.

The Martins have eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.




The Ayerses


Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Ayers of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000. They were honored with a surprise reception at Family Time Restaurant, hosted by their children, Robert Ayers, Peggy Miller and Tina Mason, their spouses and grandchildren.

The Ayerses were married Nov. 14, 1950, at Washington Square Baptist Church by the Rev. Paul Wallington.

Mrs. Ayers is the former Helen Jones, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Jones.

Mr. Ayers is the son of the late Sara and Arlington Ayers.

The Ayerses are retired.




The Harbaughs


Roy and Freda Harbaugh of Hagerstown were honored with a surprise 50th wedding anniversary party Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at Maugansville Ruritan Club.

The event was hosted by their children and spouses, Rick and Lois Harbaugh of Hagerstown; Dale and Rachel Harbaugh of Hagerstown; Mike and Cindy Harbaugh of Hagerstown; Curtis and Mary Harbaugh of Hagerstown; Dean Harbaugh of Hagerstown; Belinda Sandy of Hagerstown; and Shirley Harbaugh of St. Michaels, Md. The meal was catered by their son, Dale, and music was provided by Heritage Express.

The Harbaughs were married Dec. 24, 1950, at Calvary Temple in Williamsport by the Rev. Vernon Miles.
