Child care center opens in Hagerstown

With a focus on making child care affordable, the Faith, Hope and Charity Child Care Academy on Locust Street in Hagerstown was opened Saturday.

Gary Mebane, president of the academy, said he wanted to start the center because there is a shortage of affordable child care in Washington County.

For care of infants, the center will charge $135 a week and for children 2- through 5-years of age, the rate will be $85, Mebane said.

A ribbon cutting was held at the center Saturday at 530 N. Locust St., and it will officially open to the public Monday.

The center will be able to serve up to 300 children, Mebane said.
