Newman W. Shifflett

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Newman William Shifflett, 55, of 11209 Grant Shook Road, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pa.

Born Dec. 17, 1945, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Numan Joshua and Laura Elizabeth Murray Shifflett.

He retired from the U.S. Civil Service, working as an Aircraft Fire Protection Specialist with the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority at Washington-Dulles Airport. Later, he worked at County Market in Hagerstown, Hagerstown Produce and most recently at Domestic Linen Supply in Hagerstown.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church in Williamsport.

He was a member of Franklin L. Carbaugh American Legion Post 373 of Greencastle, Eagles Club Inc. of Waynesboro, Pa., Western Enterprise Fire Co. of Hagerstown and Hagerstown Fire Police and served as chief officer of Williamsport Fire Co.


He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Delores Jean Buharp Shifflett; a son, Shane William Shifflett Sr. of Greencastle; a daughter, Angela Jean Jackson of Hagerstown; five sisters, Delores Campbell of Sykesville, Md, Sandra Swope of Ashley, Ohio, and Patricia Mills, Judy Carbaugh and Melinda Tolley, all of Williamsport; a granddaughter; and two grandsons.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Rehoboth United Methodist Church, 30 E. Salisbury St. in Williamsport. The Rev. James E. Swecker will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown, with military honors by Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 of Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the church.

Arrangements are by Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.

Franklin T. Rhone

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Franklin T. Rhone, 73, of 6591 Little Mountain Terrace, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at his home.

Born Dec. 18, 1927, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Lester and Mildred Hardsock Rhone.

He was a self-employed builder and contractor. Earlier, he worked for Hill-Ivens-Hill contractors.

He was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church in Chambersburg.

He sang gospel music with the Rhone Family and the Guilford Station Boys at the Appalachian Jubilee in Chambersburg.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, June D. Baughman Rhone; a daughter, Donna K. Rhone of Chambersburg; two sons, Phillip Rhone and Timothy R. Rhone, both of Chambersburg; three sisters, Darlene Rhone of Pond Bank, Pa., Joann Powell of Waynesboro, Pa., and Carol Rhone of South Mountain, Pa.; a brother, Robert Rhone of Pond Bank; seven granddaughters; three grandsons; and a great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road in Chambersburg. Pastor Dave Woodruff will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.

Visitation will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home.

Robert P. Edwards

CLEARVILLE, Pa. - Robert P. Edwards, 76, of Ragged Mountain Road, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at his home.

Born Aug. 6, 1924, in Altoona, Pa., he was the son of the late Watson and Margaret Edwards.

His first wife, Millicent Kibler, whom he married in 1943, died in 1983. His second wife, Ryntha Redinger Gendrow, died Jan. 27, 1998.

He was employed as a driver with Charlton Brothers Trucking of Hagerstown for more than 27 years.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He was a member of the Teamsters Local of Hagerstown and Chaneysville Fire Co. in Chaneysville, Pa.

He is survived by a daughter, Sharon Wyont of Allentown, Pa.; a son, Robert P. Edwards Jr. of Seymour, Tenn; a stepdaughter, Connie L. Foor of Clearville; a stepson, Donnie V. Gendrow of Fort Ashby, W.Va.; three sisters, Mary Wilson, Marjorie Snyder and Grace Paskovich, all of Altoona, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl Edwards, Joe Edwards and Sam Edwards, and one granddaughter.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Dalla Valle Funeral Chapel, 22 W. Main St., in Everett, Pa. The Rev. Michael James and the Rev. Gerald Wagner will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion Christian Cemetery, near Chaneysville.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday one hour prior to services.

Jack W. Wetzel Sr.

FUNKSTOWN - Jack William Wetzel Sr., 65, of 20 Frederick Road, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

Born June 10, 1935, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Harvey W. and Audrey Accord Wetzel.

He was a graduate of the University of Maryland.
