Margaret S. Payne

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Margaret Sleichter Payne, 92, of 1425 Philadelphia Ave., and formerly of Hagerstown, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at Penn Hall Nursing Home in Chambersburg.

Born Aug. 22, 1908, in Hummelstown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Ella G. Sterner Sleichter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan Dillon Payne, in 1991.

She was a 1928 graduate of Chambersburg High School; and a 1931 graduate of Cumberland State Teachers College.

She taught in one-room schools in the Scotland, Pa. and Chambersburg areas.

She was a member of Menno Haven Christian Fellowship at Penn Hall Chapel in Chambersburg; and a former member of Presbyterian Church in Hagerstown.

She was a member of Hagerstown Chapter 89 Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Markley, Marie Smith and Rebecca McCrea; and three brothers, Charles H. Sleichter Jr., John S. Sleichter and T. Richard Sleichter.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Penn Hall Chapel, 1425 Philadelphia Ave. in Chambersburg. The Rev. Robert E. Keener will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery in Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Saturday at 10 a.m. at the chapel.

Memorial donations may be made to Menno Haven Penn Hall Inc., 1427 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201; or to a charity of one's choice.

Gail L. Harrison

ST. THOMAS, Pa. - Gail L. Harrison, 87, of 230 St. Thomas-Edenville Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born May 16, 1913, in Metal, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Albert and Belle Gilbert Johnston.

A husband, Walter Cable, died in 1977. Robert D. Harrison, whom she married in 1989, died in June, 2000.

She retired in 1990 from Gail's Beauty Shop in St. Thomas, which she owned and operated for 45 years.

She was a member of United Methodist Church of St. Thomas.

She was a member of Women of the Moose Lodge 1128 and AARP Chapter 2287, both in Chambersburg.

She is survived by three stepdaughters, Ruth Diffenderfer of Martinsburg, W.Va., Carole Anderson of Ormand Beach, Fla., and Sarah Harrison of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; two stepsons, Daniel Cable of Indiana and Charles J. Harrison of Fair Oaks, Calif.; stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; a nephew; two great-nieces and one great-nephew.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., in Mercersburg, Pa. The Rev. Paul F. Crawford Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.

Viewing will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, which will open at 9 a.m.

Willie R. Miller Sr.

Willie Rau "Bill" Miller Sr., 77, of 14014 Marsh Pike in Hagerstown and formerly of Greencastle, Pa., died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Nov. 12, 1923, in Cherry Run, W.Va., he was the son of the late George Henry and Annie Mae Weller Miller.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Marie Miller.

He retired from Fairchild Aircraft; Martins Foods; and Sunnyway Food.

He is survived by his wife, Velma R. Miller; a daughter, Joyce Fink of Hedgesville, W.Va.; three sons, Larry L. Miller, William R. Miller and Stephen D. Miller, all of Hagerstown; three stepsons, Robert Thomas of Chambersburg, Pa., Lynn Thomas and Benjamin Thomas, both of Greencastle; a sister, Helen Dunn of Inwood, W.Va.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ida Albright and Pearl Wills; and five brothers, Edward Miller, Johnny Miller, Everts Miller, Norman Miller and Roy Miller.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North in Hagerstown. The Rev. Gerald D. Carbaugh will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Muriel B. Andersen

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Muriel Betty Andersen, 87, of 1100 Peach Orchard Lane, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at her home.

Born Aug. 28, 1913, in Nanticoke, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Richard and Alice Walters Pratt.

She was preceded in death by former husbands, Thomas Morgan and Salvador Andersen.

She is survived by a son, Thomas H. Morgan Sr. of Germantown, Md.; a sister, Isabel Rees of Nanticoke, Pa.; three granddaughters, Robin McCollum of Poolesville, Md., Wendy Choporis of Germantown, Md. and Penny Bland of Brunswick; a grandson, Thomas H. Morgan Jr. of Laurel, Md.; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Rheda Buckley, Flossie Rowett and Alice Rowett; and two brothers, William Pratt and Robert Pratt.
