MARTINSBURG, W. Va. - Berkeley County Commissioner Robert Burkhart was released from City Hospital Tuesday, three days after being admitted for heart-related problems that put him in the hospital earlier this month.

"It was the same thing as before, they just changed the medication a little bit," said Burkhart, 72, who has been a county commissioner or Circuit Court clerk since 1962.

He has a condition that makes his heart rate increase while his blood pressure decreases, Burkhart said. He was admitted to the hospital Saturday.

"It's not that bad," he said.

Burkhart has missed some recent commission meetings and will miss today's regular weekly session.

He said health concerns will not require him to leave the commission.

"I don't think the stress bothers me," he said.

His six-year term expires in January 2003. He has announced he will not seek another term.
