FedEx opens new terminal

New FedEx home delivery terminals were opened in 85 U.S. cities February Tuesday, including one in Washington County, a Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission spokeswoman said.

The new 6,000-square-foot Washington County facility is at 16126 Business Parkway in the Huyetts Business Park.

Ten FedEx employees and independent contractors operate from the terminal, Cassandra H. Latimer, commission marketing director, said Thursday.

Fed Ex also has a facility at 1409 Oakmont Drive in Hagerstown but that is for business packages whereas the new one is for packages for home, said Latimer.

The terminals' opening marks the largest single-day facility expansion in the FedEx Ground network, a subsidiary of the FedEx Corporation.

The new terminals will increase the coverage of the FedEx Home Delivery network from 50 percent to 70 percent of the U.S. population, according to Fed Ex officials.

"We are thrilled that FedEx chose Washington County as an expansion site for its home delivery services," said Tim Troxell, EDC assistant director. "Their decision to locate here adds a new level of package delivery service for our residents."

Troxell worked directly with Fischer & Company, a Dallas consulting firm, which played an integral role in the research for and selection of FedEx's expansion sites.

FedEx Home Delivery offers customer-friendly service options including standard evening and Saturday delivery and delivery by appointment, all backed by a money back guarantee. It is the only ground service dedicated exclusively to residential delivery, according to the company.
