Greencastle Council members face election

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Four of the seven members of the Greencastle Borough Council, along with the mayor, will see their four-year terms end this year.

Incumbents and challengers who want to run in the primary have to make up their minds between Feb. 13 and March 6, the filing deadline for the May 15 Pennsylvania primary.

The last day to circulate and file nomination papers after the primary is Aug. 21 for the Nov. 6 general election.

Council members whose terms expire on Dec. 31 are:

-- Barbara B. Bock, council president, who is ending her second four-year term. She said Tuesday she is undecided about seeking reelection to a third four-year term.

-- Harry S. Myers, also an eight-year veteran. Myers said that at this time he doesn't think he wants a third four-year term. "I have a lot of family matters to take care of," he said.

-- Sydnae R. Vanner, who said she, too, is undecided about re-election. She served one four-year term, took two years off, then was appointed to fill out the current term of Councilman Dave Petrillo, who left the borough. It's his term that expires in December.

-- W. Jean Oliver, the fourth council member whose term expires this year. Oliver could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

-- Mayor Frank Mowen, who will end his second, four-year term in December. He, too, said Tuesday that he hasn't make up his mind about a run for a third term. "I'm still undecided," he said.

As mayor, Mowen earns $1,500 a year. Council members make $75 a meeting. The council meets on the first Monday of the month.

The council members whose terms don't expire until 2002 are Donald Coldsmith, Harold Duffy and Richard Walck.
