Mercersburg man dies following crash
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - An 18-year-old Mercersburg, Pa., man has died as a result of injuries he received late Friday as the passenger in a Jeep that was forced off the road, over a guardrail and into a utility pole, Pennsylvania State Police said.
Daniel Andrew Hammond was pronounced dead at York Hospital Sunday at 11:30 a.m., according to state police.
The driver of the Jeep, Helen D. Burger, 40, also of Mercersburg, was treated and released, hospital officials confirmed this morning.
The 10:15 p.m. accident occurred on Pa. 16 near Talhelm's Service Station, about two miles north of Greencastle, police said.
Carey Ann Keefer, 18, of Fort Loudon, Pa., was attempting to pass the Jeep Wrangler when she lost control of her Subaru and hit the driver's side of the Jeep, police said.
Keefer was not injured.
