CLEAR SPRING - Who let the 'Cats out?

The Wildcats of Williamsport High School are starting to improve.

After going through a disastrous 1-6 in December, the Wildcats have rebounded for a 5-4 record in 2001.

The Wildcats' latest victory came Saturday in a 68-55 victory over Clear Spring in a Washington County high school boys' basketball game.

"Defense is what wins ballgames for us this year," Williamsport coach Deron Crawford said. "In half of our wins, our opponent has only scored in the 40s."

Crawford was really pleased with the way that Williamsport (6-10) executed.

"That was a real nice win for us," Crawford said. "I was concerned coming into tonight because this was our third game this week and we are only dressing eight players right now. We have a couple of players out with the flu. We grew a lot tonight."

Freshman guard Ben Jordan came off of the bench to lead the Wildcats with 14 points.

"The guys got me the ball when I was open," Jordan said. "I just happened to hit the open shots. We just wanted to come in and play a real tight defense. We didn't want them to run out and score quickly. I thought that our defensive performance was good, overall."

Josh Foley scored 12 points, while Jason Knicely added 11 points and four assists for Williamsport. Adam McAllister grabbed 11 rebounds and Chad Basore had seven rebounds for the Wildcats.

Will Worthington led Clear Spring (3-14) with 17 points and eight rebounds. Josh Keyton added 14 points and four steals, while Justin Michael had 12 points and six assists for the Blazers.

"We shot 50 percent from the floor, but we were only 7-for-20 from the foul line," Clear Spring coach Daryl Hunsberger said. "It is hard to win ballgames when you only shoot 35 percent from the foul line."
