Church plans to buy city property

The Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in downtown Hagerstown has plans to purchase property on West Church Street from the city to make a parking lot, said David Schwartz, a church member and past president of the church's board.

The City Council Tuesday endorsed the sale of 26, 28 and 30 W. Church St. to Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church for $33,000.

A final vote on the sale is expected Feb. 27.

Schwartz, who was board president when the church first asked for the land, said the property is vacant and would be paved and turned into a parking lot once bought.

The church is at 201 N. Potomac St.
