Attempted car fires investigated

Attempts to set two vehicles on fire early Thursday in the West End may have been the work of the same person, according to Hagerstown Fire Marshal Tom Brown.

The first incident occurred at 311 Key Ave., where paper was stuffed into the neck of the gas tank of a 1995 Ford Escort and set on fire, Brown said.

The damage was minor.

At 9 a.m., the owner of a 1979 Ford Ranger discovered the same circumstances at 321 Nottingham Road, virtually in the same neighborhood as the other incident, Brown said.

If anyone saw suspects or a vehicle in those areas overnight or early Thursday morning, Brown would like to hear from them.
