Boys roundup - Perfect Medley lifts Hubs

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Evan Medley didn't letdown and let North Hagerstown have a letdown.

The No. 6 Hubs bounced back after a hard-fought victory over South Hagerstown on Monday as Medley hit his first six shots of the game en route to 22 points on Tuesday to lead North to a 76-53 victory over Brunswick.

"We ran into a buzzsaw tonight," Brunswick coach Jim Sklencar said. "We've played them three times this year and this is the best we've seen them play. We didn't play poorly ... it was just a terrific offensive display tonight."

The victory allows North to continue to set the pace in the Monocacy Valley Athletic League lead.

Medley hit 11 points in the first quarter and the Hubs (15-1, 11-1) took a 21-13 lead. But North couldn't shake the Railroaders as Wes Shafer scored 14 of his 16 points in the first half before the Hubs settled on a 38-24 halftime lead.

The two teams played even in the third quarter, but North opened the final eight minutes with a 12-0 run to put the game away. The Hubs fell into a 1-3-1 zone defense to knock the Railroaders (6-9, 5-7) off track.

"I don't think we were playing that badly," Sklencar said. "You look at it ... they scored 32 baskets and we had 16 defensive rebounds ... they didn't miss too many. That's like 32 of 48 shooting. They did a great job turning turnovers into layups. It was't the press, they were just getting hands on passes and they were becoming layups."

Scott Rice added 16 points for the Hubs to go with 13 rebounds and eight assists, while Nate Naylor had 18 points and Mike Rodgers had seven assists and five steals.

Shafer finished with eight rebounds while Larry Brown had four assists and two steals.
