L. Alice Burkholder

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - L. Alice Burkholder, 81, of Menno Haven, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Nov. 19, 1919, in Franklin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ira F. and Emma C. Wenger Foust.

She was employed by Stanley Co. for 33 years, retiring in 1985.

She was a member of Salem United Brethren Church, where she taught Sunday School for a number of years, and was superintendent of the Young Classes Department.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Edgar F. Burkholder; two daughters, Phyllis Baldner of St. Thomas, Pa., and Wilma I. Carbaugh of Chambersburg; a son, Wayne E. Burkholder of Chambersburg; two sisters, Ruth Bless of Chambersburg and Emma Bless of Aston, Pa.; two brothers, Ira F. Foust Jr. of Shippensburg, Pa., and Wilber T. Foust of Chambersburg; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.

Services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Salem United Brethren Church. The Rev. Ronald L. Cook will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, Chambersburg, and one hour prior to the services on Tuesday.

Glen F. Smith

MCCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Glen F. Smith, 78, of McConnellsburg, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at Putnam Community Medical Center, Palatka, Fla.

Born Nov. 23, 1922, in Warfordsburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Walter G. and Sarah Mann Smith.

He graduated from Warfordsburg High School.

He retired from Fairchild Aircraft, Hagerstown, after 38 years.

He served in World War II in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of McConnellsburg United Methodist Church, McConnellsburg, and also attended Welaka United Methodist Church, Welaka, Fla.

He is survived by his wife, Hope Mellott Smith, whom he married in 1943; three daughters, Phyllis Bard and Jan Beppler, both of McConnellsburg, and Joanne Coffman of Mercersburg, Pa.; two sons, James F. Smith of Big Cove Tannery, Pa., and Gerald Smith of McConnellsburg; a sister, Mary Sipes of McConnellsburg; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Edith Lake; and a brother, Jobie Smith.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at McConnellsburg United Methodist Church. The Rev. Donald Bard and Elder James Coffman will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg.

Military services will be conducted by Fulton Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., Harrisonville, Pa., which will be open from 2 p.m. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the church.

Robert C. Bauerle Jr.

BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. - Robert C. Bauerle Jr., 49, of 14483 Charmian Road, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, Pa.

Born July 9, 1951, in Houston, he was the son of the late Robert C. Bauerle Sr. and Elizabeth Andrews Bauerle.

He was a 1969 graduate of Westbury High School, Houston. In 1974, he received his bachelor of arts degree in sociology and psychology from Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas, then a master's degree in business administration and information systems management from Penn State University in 2000.

He retired from the U.S. Army as a major in 1994. He served almost 20 years and had been stationed in various places in the United States and was also stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany.

He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro, Pa.

He was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society, Penn State University Alumni Association and the American Legion of Wormleysburg, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor A. Pfersch Bauerle, whom he married Nov. 25, 1978; a sister, Sharon Bauerle of Houston; and a number of relatives.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 S. Church St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Richard A. Seaks will officiate. Burial will be in Southern Wisconsin Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove, Wis., at a later date.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
