Edward L. Rowland

BOONSBORO - Edward Lee Rowland, 68, of 206 Della Lane, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 7, 1932, in Gardner, W.Va., he was the son of the late Robert E. Rowland and Gertrude Ratliff Rowland Cook.

He was a graduate of Concord College in Athens, W.Va.

He taught science at the old North Hagerstown High School. He then worked at Martin Marietta in Orlando, Fla., at Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown and Rohr Aircraft .

He served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church in Rohrersville, and was president of the church council.

He was a member of Clopper Michael Post 10 American Legion in Boonsboro.

He served on the Boonsboro Town Council.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dorothy Jo Marie Rowland; three daughters, Robin Westerhorstmann of Germany, Julia Bartron of Newport News, Va. and Holly Jo Giles of Vienna, Va.; a sister, Joan Rowland Landreth of Springfield, Va.; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Claudia Ann Rowland; and his stepfather, Joseph H. Cook.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North in Hagerstown. The Rev. Blaine E. Feightner will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.

Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marjorie H. Kroeger

BOONSBORO - Marjorie Helena Kroeger, 77, of Reeders Memorial Home, and formerly of 219 Daycotah Ave. in Hagerstown, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Feb. 17, 1923, in Sharpsburg, she was the daughter of the late Lester M. Mose Sr. and Mary I. Colbert Mose.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank "Joe" Kroeger Jr., in 1984.

She had been employed by Dorbee; L'Aiglon; and Prospect Tavern.

She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Judith A. Morningstar of Smithsburg; three sisters, Hazel L. Barkdoll of Hagerstown, Peggy L. Rohrer and Carolyn S. Keller, both of Boonsboro; a brother, Robert L. Mose of Boonsboro; three grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen Keim and Ruth McSherry; and a brother, Lester M. Mose Jr.

Services will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Michael J. Jendrek will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Madeline M. Hutter

LAUREL, Md. - Madeline May Hutter, 79, of Laurel, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at Laurel Regional Hospital.

Born April 22, 1921, in Moorefield, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Adolphus Gottlieb Hutter Sr. and Mary Louise Keller Hutter.

She was a graduate of South Eastern Bible Institute in Lakeland, Fla.

She retired from Cedar Knoll Detention Center, where she had worked as a counselor.

She was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church in Savage, Md.

She is survived by a sister, Bessie Louise Hutter of Moorefield, W.Va.; 10 nieces and four nephews.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Emma Magadalene Csee, Katharine E. Kessel, Mary Ruth Hutter and Edna Rose Tabler; and seven brothers, Henry Edward Hutter, David Scott Hutter, Jacob Antonn Hutter, Fred Karl Hutter, Luther Lee Hutter, Russell Gamble Hutter and Adolphus Gottlieb Hutter Jr.

Services will be Monday at 8 p.m. at Donaldson Funeral Home in Laurel. Pastor Don Cox will officiate.

The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Local services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg, W.Va. Pastor Don Cox will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday at noon at the funeral home.




Ethel K. Gunther

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Ethel Katherine Gunther, 89, of Shepherdstown, and formerly of Bel Air, Md., died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born in Astoria, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late John Fulton Aird and the late Elizabeth Martha Mevius McDaniel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry H. Gunther.

She was a member of Union Chapel Church in Joppa, Md.; and attended Christ Church in Shepherdstown.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy E. Snyder of Shepherdstown; a son, Donald A. Gunther of Jarrettsville, Md.; eight grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth J. Gunther.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at McComas Funeral Home in Bel Air. The Rev. John W. Rudisill Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Bel Air Memorial Gardens.
