HCC stands tall to pummel Howard

COLUMBIA, Md. - A fluke incident allowed Hagerstown Community College to turn a weakness into a strength.

HCC's big men - the forgotten members of the Hawks roster - took control and combined for 69 points Saturday as HCC sprinted to a 120-76 victory over Howard Community College.

Howard lost center Keith Fanjoy with five minutes remaining in the first half after he separated his shoulder when he collided with a teammate. The injury allowed HCC (18-4) to take advantage of the opening and work the ball inside.

Center Jerome Goodman had the game of his career, scoring 20 points while pulling down 23 rebounds, 13 coming off the offensive glass.

Derek Hoffman had his best game of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Mark Jennings had 16 points and Girbront Gaddy finished with 15.

HCC's starting unit overwhelmed Howard to open the game and then turned it over to the bench and big men to put it away. The Hawks led 57-36 at the half.

Eric Branham had 13 points and eight assists while Brandon DeShields dealt 10 assists. Corey Tabron had 23 points and eight steals.
