Anna E. Fiala

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Anna Elizabeth Fiala, 86, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at Colton Villa Nursing Home in Hagerstown.

Born Oct. 23, 1914, in Tasov, Czechoslovakia, she was the daughter of the late Antos and Maria Falesnikova Frolka.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Silvio Fiala.

She had worked with her late husband from 1971 to 1981 in cancer research at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She was a writer and an artist.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Anna Hicks of Simi Valley, Calif.; a son, Dr. Emerich Fiala of Chappaqua, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Church of St. John and St. Mary, Chappaqua. Father O'Toole will officiate. Burial will be private.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.




Anna I. Welty

BOONSBORO - Anna Irene Welty, 95, of 107 Lakin Ave., died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

Born July 21, 1905, near Boonsboro, she was the daughter of the late Carmie Benton and Edna Daisy Smith Hutzell.

Her husband, John Edgar Welty, died Nov. 2, 1983.

She was formerly employed as a caretaker for Boonsboro Cemetery.

She was a member of Beaver Creek Christian Church.

She was a member of Boonsboro Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by a son, Vaughn R. Welty; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Agnes Catherine Crowl.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. J. Mark Curran will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Catherine D. Reichard

Catherine Dawson Reichard, 85, of 1315 Oak Hill Ave., Hagerstown, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at her home.

Born July 20, 1915, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of the late William Charles and Kate Cochrane Dawson.

Her husband, Daniel Livingston Reichard, died in 1996.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Hagerstown.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Coleman Witmer of Hagerstown; a son, F. Thomas Coleman of Hedgesville, W.Va.; a brother, Roy G. Dawson of Hagerstown; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Nora E. Dawson; and three brothers, Colvin R. Waddell, George D. Waddell, and William Charles Dawson II.

Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.




Ellen A. Abrahamson

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Ellen Amanda Abrahamson, 95, of Charles Town, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Oct. 31, 1905, in Clarkfield, Minn., she was the daughter of the late Gustaf and Anna Twedt Anderson.

Her husband, Edwin Theodore Abrahamson, died April 15, 1981.

She had been a secretary in the Prince George's County, Md., school system and worked for U.S. Veterans Administration Department and the U.S. Patent Office, both in Washington, D.C.

She was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church, Charles Town, and the church circle.

She was a member of Jefferson Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary in Ranson, W.Va., Literacy Volunteers of Jefferson County and AARP.

She is survived by a daughter, Adele M. Knott of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.; six grandchildren, John J. Knott, Matthew P. Knott, Mark D. Knott, Rebekah L. Knott, Sarah E. Knott and Luke D. Knott; a great-grandchild; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Paul Henry Abrahamson; two sisters, Thilda Nelson and Emelia Willander; six brothers, Emil Anderson, Theodore Anderson, Melvin Anderson, Hjalmer Anderson, Arthur Anderson, and Henry Anderson.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Lutheran Church, Charles Town. The Rev. Richard E. Neal will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.

The family will receive friends at Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Ellen I. Stewart

MOUNT AETNA - Ellen "Jean" Imogene Stewart, 78, of Mount Aetna, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 28, 1922, in Lincoln County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Okel Kermin and Lillie Charlotte Watson McCallister.

Her husband, James E. Stewart Sr., died in 1967.
