Helen H. Freeman

Helen "Holly" Hartman Freeman, 74, of Avalon Manor and formerly of 1382 Outer Drive, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Avalon Manor.

Born March 18, 1926, in Brandywine, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Boyd and Cleda Keister Hartman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Freeman, in 1992.

She was a graduate of Mount Vernon High School in Alexandria, Va., and attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Va.

She helped with research on Muscular Dystrophy at Georgetown University and the National Institutes of Health.

She was a member of Patopsco United Methodist Church in Baltimore and Wesley Methodist Church in Alexandria.

She is survived by a daughter, Holly Jane Lemons of Hagerstown; a sister, Doris Hartman Smith of Fort Myers Beach, Fla.; a brother, James D. Hartman of Alexandria; and a cousin and caretaker, Betty Henry of Hagerstown.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ira Daniel Freeman.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Thomas E. Young Jr. will officiate.

Burial will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Mount Comfort Cemetery in Alexandria.

The family will receive friends Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.




Florence H. Heffner

CARLISLE, Pa. - Florence Hattrick Heffner, 80, of 35 Abbey Court, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at Carlisle Hospital.

Born Jan. 16, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Lillian Browne Hattrick.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Heffner.

She was a graduate of Guilford, N.Y., High School.

She was a retired food service worker at Waynesboro Hospital in Waynesboro, Pa.

She was a member of Women of the Moose 1136 of Waynesboro and Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 695 of Waynesboro.

She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy L. McCauley of Waynesboro and Sharon M. Heffner of Carlisle; a son, Robert G. Lowne of Naperville, Ill.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be Tuesday at noon at Ronan Funeral Home, 255 York Road in Carlisle. The Rev. Kathleen G. Coleman will officiate.

Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

Visitation will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Lung Association, Central Pennsylvania chapter, 6401 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17101.




Wayne W. Elliott

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Wayne W. Elliott, 85, of 902 Parkside Court and formerly of 214 Glen St., died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at his home.

Born Nov. 9, 1915, in Culbertson, Pa., he was the son of the late Walter O. and Bertha M. Ankerbrand Elliott.

He was a 1933 graduate of Chambersburg High School and a 1936 graduate of Shippensburg State College in Shippensburg, Pa.

He retired in 1986. He served as Greene Township secretary treasurer for 24 years and served as auditor in Greene Township for four years. Earlier, he was a school teacher, teaching in one-room elementary schools in Letterkenny Township. He also taught school in Marion, Scotland and Guilford Township in Pennsylvania.

He was a member of King Street United Brethren Church in Chambersburg, where he was a member of Burton Men's Bible Class and Master Men's International Association, served as secretary of the Sunday School and secretary to the Official Board and church treasurer and served on the Board of Trustees and Board of Deacons.

He served as Chambersburg School Board director, serving on the Special Education Committee; was secretary and later treasurer of Franklin County Association of Township Officials; and was a member of Franklin County Planning Commission, Chambersburg Area Wage Tax Board, Board of Children's Aide Society of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors, Pennsylvania State Association of Township Secretaries, Falling Spring Chapter 2840 AARP, Williams Grove Steam Engine Association and Mason-Dixon Antique Automobile Club.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys Bittinger Elliott, whom he married May 3, 1941; a son, Gregory W. Elliott of Lancaster, Pa.; two sisters, Helen Gartside and Betty Seylar, both of Chambersburg; and a brother, John W. Elliott of Chambersburg.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at King Street United Brethren Church, 172 E. King St. in Chambersburg. The Revs. Patrick B. Jones, Paul B. Baker and Lester F. Stine will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery in Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home in Chambersburg and Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the church.

Joseph G. Sardone

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Joseph George Sardone, 91, of Tuscawilla Hills, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.
