Police capture man wanted on warrant

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A Martinsburg man wanted on a federal warrant was taken into custody during a traffic stop in the 800 block of West King Street Thursday afternoon, Martinsburg City Police said.

Kenneth Charles Banks, 39, of 107 Illinois Ave., was arrested on a probation violation charge, police said.

The warrant, issued Dec. 15, 1999, charges him with weapons violations, escape and failure to appear.

Banks was being held at the Eastern Regional Jail pending federal proceedings.

Two charged with burglary in W.Va.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Two arrests were made Wednesday when Martinsburg City Police responded to 302 Western Ave. for complaints of a burglary in progress.

After talking to witnesses, police took Amanda K. Miller, 24, and Erick M. Hartwick, 26, into custody.

Both were charged with burglary and assault during the commission of a felony, police said.

Miller and Hartwick were being held at the Eastern Regional Jail Thursday evening, awaiting an appearance before a magistrate, jail officials said.

Frederick police make drug arrests

FREDERICK, Md. - Drug arrests were made Wednesday by both Frederick city and county police.

At 10:20 p.m., Officer Michael Weaver of Frederick City Police stopped a vehicle in the 500 block of North Bentz Street.

The driver, Sydney Kennedy Larson, 41, of 621 Himes Ave., and passenger, Deborah Judy Kovack, 40, of 565 Boysenberry Lane, both were charged with possession of crack cocaine, police said.

Due to their behavior during the traffic stop, K-9 Bex and Officer Bill Forder came to the scene, police said.

Some crack was found, police alleged.

-- Deputy Bart Ruppenthal of the Frederick County Sheriff's Department pulled over a vehicle going 102 in a 65 mph zone on U.S. 340 at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday and noticed a strong odor of marijuana, police said.

A scan by K-9 Kilo turned up a quarter-pound of marijuana, police alleged.

Passenger Gregory Wayne Neal, 18, of the 2300 block of old Valley Pike, Strasburg, Va., was charged with possession of marijuana, and possession with intent to distribute marijuana, police said.

The driver, Jesse Patrick Allard, 20, of Shenandoah Ave., Edenburg, Va., was given three citations, police said.

-- A search warrant executed late Wednesday at 119 E. Sixth St. in Frederick resulted in three drug arrests and one for failure to appear in court.

George Larvell Booth, 26, of that address, was charged with cocaine distribution, and possession of cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Robert Lynn Thompson, 27, also of 119 E. Sixth St., was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Davis Quandale Dowan, 21, of East 7th St., was charged with possession of marijuana.

Kevin Anthony Hill, 18, of Baltimore, was picked up on the outstanding warrant, police said.

Pro-Flex bike taken from County Market

A man rode his $2,643 bicycle to County Market on Pennsylvania Avenue around 6 p.m. Wednesday, left it outside unlocked and returned a few minutes later to find it was gone, Hagerstown City Police said.

The bike, a 26-inch Pro-Flex "Animal" is blue, red and yellow with a black seat and 24 gears.
