Catherine Y. Anderson

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Catherine Y. Anderson, 79, of 140 Faust St., died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at Menno Haven Nursing Home in Chambersburg, Pa.

Born Nov. 28, 1921, in St. Thomas, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Harry and Blanche Custer Youse.

Her husband, Warren E. Anderson, died March 23, 1992.

She had been an employee of the former Smith's Drug Store in Mercersburg, the Pennsylvania Department of Highways and worked as a cook at area social clubs.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Clarence Armstrong VFW Post 6241 and Ladies Auxiliary of Harry Lackhove American Legion Post 517, both in Mercersburg.

She is survived by one daughter, Abby A. Anderson of Mercersburg; one son, Richard E. Anderson of Mercersburg; and two grandsons, Richard G. Lewis and Michael C. Lewis, both of Mercersburg.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Y. Martin.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg. The Rev. Alan R. Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg.

A viewing will be Sunday at the funeral home at 1 p.m.

Howard M. Niswander

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Howard M. "Harvey" Niswander, 81, of 5 Orchard Circle, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at Menno-Haven in Chambersburg, Pa.

Born June 18, 1919, in Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late Harvey L. and Lizzie B. Hoover Niswander.

He attended Browns Mill School in Kauffman, Pa.; and Lemasters (Pa.) High School.

He drove a school bus for 28 years for the Greencastle-Antrim School District and was an employee of Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home in Greencastle for 29 years.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mercersburg, Pa.

He was a member of Rescue Hose Co. No. 1 of Greencastle, Mount Pisgah Masonic Lodge 443 F & AM of Greencastle, Harrisburg Consistory, South Penn Scottish Rite Club of Waynesboro, Pa., Victoria Council 443 Junior Order United American Mechanics of Marion, Pa. and Greencastle Sportsman Association.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred J. Hock Niswander, whom he married July 27, 1943; two sisters, Bertha I. Shank of Reid, Md. and Edna G. Picking of Greencastle; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Elizabeth Gayman, Kathryn Rotz, Ruth Statler Wenger Gayman and Verda Myers; and two brothers, Laban Niswander and Orville Niswander.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, in Mercersburg, Pa. The Rev. Michael Baughman will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St. in Greencastle; and Saturday at 1 p.m. at the church.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Ella M. Keedy

Ella May Keedy, 93, of Ravenwood Lutheran Village, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 11, 1907, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late James Luther and Annie E. Grubbs Bennett.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles J. Keedy, in 1985.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and Fidelis Sunday School Class.

She is survived by a son, Charles E. Keedy of Hagerstown; two sisters, Jane Hershberger of Dodge City, Colo. and Betty Leather of Williamsport; a brother, Raymond Bennett of Hagerstown; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Schindel; a son, Robert Keedy; two sisters, Madeline O'Connor and Virginia Keedy; and a grandson.

Graveside services will be held today at 2:30 p.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery. The Rev. Wayne I. Schwanke will officiate.

There will be no viewing.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.




Joyce A. Conklin Dean

HANCOCK - Joyce A. Conklin Dean, 62, of 14413 Maple Ridge Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Born July 18, 1938, in California, she was the daughter of the late Clifford F. and Ruth J. Pendergrass.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Conklin, in 1974.

Before retiring, she had worked at Rohr Industries and Fairchild Aircraft.
