Editor's note - Please be as brief as possible when calling Mail Call, The Daily Mail's reader call-in line.

Mail Call is not staffed on weekends or holidays so it is best to call Mail Call during the week. The Mail Call number is 301-791-6236.

You are welcome to leave a recorded message on any subject, but some calls will be screened out.

Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"I was reading the paper on Jan. 14 about the hospitals being short of nurses and so forth. Well they should be paid more instead of worrying about being on the top 100 list. I hope that the new president decides to give these employees more money. I am not an employee nor do I have anyone connected with it, I hear them talking while I am visiting the hospital. I think it is a shame. They should be paid better."

"It is now Monday, 1:48 and my power has gone off three times, while I am trying to bake a cake. I am wondering what is going on that the power keeps going off in Keedysville. I called the neighbors and they do not have power, either. Someone call and let me know what is going on."

"I wanted to say that the town of Williamsport puts Hagerstown to shame. I was over in Williamsport the other day, the streets were so clean, everything was polished. It sure was nice to go through a nice, clean town. They must have good town employees over there because everything was so beautiful."

"I want to know how many buses the school board plans on buying in the next five years? If they have all this excess every year, why are they pushing the County Commissioners for more money all the time? Let the contractors have their buses. What they want to do is take the contracts away and try to have the contract drivers for less money. I think it is time for Carter and Bartlett to get a grip and let the contract drivers alone."

"What do you call a bunch of millionaires watching the Super Bowl? Redskins!"

"I have a 35 foot silver maple tree in my backyard. You can have the wood, if you cut the tree down. My number is 301-739-8992. You can get in touch with me in the evenings. This is a residential area with properties next to mine."

"I don't think that they should consolidate these schools. I think this is going to make the children spend more time riding the buses. The less time they are on the bus, the safer they are. I think they need to put the money in the schools and stop worrying about the pay raises for everybody else. Fix these schools, so the kids can get a good education in their own district."

"In regards to Sunday's editorial about the Community Rescue Service running out of cash. If they are so strapped for money, why are they out seeking bids to replace a rescue squad, that could potentially cost $300,000?"

"To all the so-called fathers who did not spend any time with their children this Christmas, may God forgive you. For the real father's who gave their children wonderful Christmas memories, may God bless you."

"If anyone seen the vehicle who hit the green Sundance in the parking lot of Marshall's on Jan. 11 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., please call Mail Call. There was a lot of damage done to the car and I was hoping someone would have seen it."

"I want to wish Sid and Nancy a happy 45th wedding anniversary on Jan. 16, from the kids next door."

"Is there a local facility that will accept used greeting cards for re-use or recycling?"

"I want to know if you need a permit to run an LP gas line in your home?"

"I may have lost a hubcap in the area of Salem Avenue. If you can tell if it was for a Pontiac, call me at 301-582-2033 or leave a message."

"I was wondering if anyone is going to have a bus excursion to Wildwood, N.J. this Spring or Summer. Preferably four nights and five days or even a one day trip would do. If so, call me at 301-432-6163."

"I would like to thank the Hagerstown Fire Department, Mike Weller and the firemen who showed and explained about the fire on Pope Avenue. This was an excellent way to show the public about a fire and the great work they do for the city. My husband was in the fire department for over 31 years and even I learned several things to do when fire hits your home. This could be very devastating and I know now how many things Bill went through all these years. We have the best fire department anywhere. From Lucy."

"How can I replace some of my Princess House plates that I have broken? The girl that had the party several years ago, I called her number and it's disconnected. Please, I am looking for someone else who sells Princess House."
