Charles Town man critical after slashing

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - A Charles Town was seriously injured Monday night when he was slashed in the throat during a fight on West Avis Street, Charles Town Police Chief Mike Aldridge said Tuesday.

Bobby Buffaloboy Jr. was practically cut "ear to ear" in the fight, which involved about 10 people, Aldridge said.

Buffaloboy, 28, suffered a slashed trachea and larynx in the fight. When police entered a house at 418 W. Avis St. where Buffaloboy lived, they found a large amount of blood in the house and Buffaloboy sitting in a chair with a shirt wrapped around his neck, Aldridge said.

Buffaloboy was listed in critical but stable condition Tuesday afternoon, Aldridge said.

Most of the people who were involved in the fight had fled by the time police arrived, Aldridge said. Police later interviewed about six people who were nearby when the fight started, Aldridge said.

A number of people were gathered in the area of Buffaloboy's house and a laundromat at the Hilldale Shopping Center after the fight.

It was not clear what started the fight at Buffaloboy's house, Aldridge said.

Someone in the fight had a knife and another one had a baseball bat, Aldridge said.

"I think they were throwing cans of beer at each other and all kinds of things. We're still in the midst of sorting out who did what to who. It was sort of a melee," Aldridge said.

Buffaloboy was taken to Jefferson Memorial Hospital and later taken to a trauma center outside the state. Aldridge said he was instructed by officials at the hospital where the victim is being treated not to identify the institution to the public.

Aldridge said hospital officials did not want the hospital identified until an arrest is made in the case.

Hospital officials told Aldridge that Buffaloboy is expected to survive the attack.
