BALTIMORE - With Rodney Gibson home sick on Sunday, No. 3 St. Maria Goretti battled Cardinal Gibbons into overtime before finally falling, 54-52.

Cardinal Gibbons took a 20-12 lead after the first quarter, but the Gaels (11-5) held them to just 25 points through the rest of regulation and slowly climbed back in the game.

Tied at 45-45, Goretti had a chance to win with 14 seconds left following an inbounds play. But the Gaels committed one of their 22 turnovers on the play, sending the game to extra time.

Goretti had two opportunities to tie the game again down the stretch in overtime, but missed both.
