Two injured in I-70 accident


Two people were taken to Washington County Hospital Friday night after a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 70 southeast of Hagerstown, according to a Washington County emergency dispatcher.

The extent of the injuries was not available, but the dispatcher said one patient was considered "priority one," which is the most serious condition, and the other patient was considered "priority two."

The accident, which occurred at about 9 p.m. east of Md. 66, involved either two or three vehicles, the dispatcher said.

Man faces theft, drug, assault charges


A Martinsburg, W.Va., man is facing drug, theft and assault charges after an alleged shoplifting incident at the Longmeadow Shopping Center Friday.

Hagerstown Police Sgt. George Knight said Sears security personnel saw Brian Scott Kelley, 24, appear to put merchandise in his jacket in the store about noon Friday. When they confronted Kelley, he allegedly assaulted three officers, Knight said.

When police arrived, they allegedly found Kelley in possession of five vials of suspected heroin, Knight said.

Kelley was charged with one count of felony theft, three counts of second-degree assault, one count of possession of heroin with intent to distribute and one count of possession of heroin.

Driver remains in serious condition


MAUGANSVILLE - A Smithsburg man remained hospitalized in serious condition Friday night, a day after a train struck his pickup truck.

Nelson Bair, 51, who is in Washington County Hospital, was driving a Bair's Pools truck on Maugansville Road. A Norfolk Southern train hit the truck's front panel and snow plow near Martin's Elevator, the Washington County Sheriff's Department reported.

Man, wife injured in one-vehicle accident


BIG POOL, Md. - A Berkeley Springs, W.Va., man fell asleep while driving on Interstate 70 Friday afternoon, causing an accident that injured him and his wife, Maryland State Police in Hagerstown said.

Walter Brown, 67, and Jean Brown, whose age was not available, were in the emergency room at Washington County Hospital Friday night, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Walter Brown was driving a 1999 Dodge Dakota in the left-hand lane when it hit the median about two miles west of Big Pool, police said. The truck crossed both lanes of traffic, went up an embankment on the right side of the road, hit a tree and flipped over, police said.

Emergency services workers from Clear Spring and Hancock responded to the call.

Traffic in the right lane of I-70 was closed for about an hour while Walter Brown was removed from the vehicle, police said.

Man hospitalized after drug arrests


FREDERICK, Md. - A Hanover, Pa., man who allegedly ate crack cocaine to avoid being arrested was in the intensive care unit at Frederick Memorial Hospital Friday night.

Frederick Police said Dwight Randy Hill, 40, became sick Thursday after he was brought to the police station.

A hospital spokeswoman said Hill was in stable condition Friday night. No other information on his condition was available.

Hill was with two Gettysburg, Pa., men who were arrested on drug charges Thursday afternoon, police said.

Donald Gregory Mason, 39, was charged with two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. William Dwayne Shelton, 28, was charged with possession of cocaine. Shelton also had an outstanding driving while intoxicated warrant, police said.

Window smashed on pickup truck


LURGAN TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The driver's side window of a 1989 Ford F-250 pickup truck was smashed early Friday morning, Pennsylvania State Police reported.

The truck, which belongs to a Spring Run, Pa., man, was parked near the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's shed on Pa. 641, police said.

Drug patrol results in two arrests


FREDERICK, Md. - Two Frederick, Md., residents were arrested Thursday after an undercover drug patrol at the John Hanson Apartment Complex, Frederick Police said.

Michael Randolph, 45, of the 1000 block of Greenwall Place and Jennifer Marion Weedon, 34, of the 500 block of North Market Street were each charged with possession of cocaine.

Randolph was also charged with distribution of cocaine and possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute.

Green Daewoo reported stolen


A green 2000 Daewoo was reported stolen from the Hertz rental office at Hagerstown Regional Airport just after noon Thursday, Washington County Sheriff's deputies reported.

The vehicle had Maryland tags BLG 270.

HEIGHT="6" ALT="* "> Also on Thursday afternoon, someone broke into a vehicle in the 15100 block of Clear Spring Road in Williamsport and stole 70 CDs, deputies said.

HEIGHT="6" ALT="* "> At 4:45 p.m. at 21122 San Mar Road, someone shot a BB gun, making a hole in a window of a home there, deputies said.
