Hagerstown man charged following Wednesday chase

An attempt by a 20-year-old Hagerstown man to flee from authorities early Wednesday led to a two-minute chase and an SUV in a ditch.

David Elfred King, of 156 S. Potomac St., Apt 3, and his female passenger were taken to Washington County Hospital shortly after the 1:48 a.m. crash on Alt. U.S. 40/Keadle Road.

Both were treated and released, a hospital spokesman said.

Deputy Chris Howard of the Washington County Sheriff's Department said he spotted the 1999 Kia Sportage being driven erratically at 1:46 a.m.

When Howard tried to stop the vehicle, it sped off toward Boonsboro.

"It went into a ditch on the first curve," Howard said.

King has been charged with reckless driving, fleeing and eluding, driving while intoxicated and having no driver's license, Howard said.

Attempt to steal car stereo causes damage to Suzuki

A 1994 Suzuki parked at Sharrett's on the Dual Highway Tuesday was broken into in an attempt to steal the car's stereo, according to Washington County Sheriff's deputies.


Damage was estimated at $600, deputies said.

Tires on Volkswagen parked in Sharpsburg slashed

The tires on a 1984 Volkswagen were slashed while it was parked at 121 E. Main St. in Sharpsburg Tuesday, according to Washington County Sheriff's deputies.

Damage was $230, deputies said.

Jeep Grand Cherokee taken from Hoffman lot

A 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo valued at more than $30,000 was reported stolen from Hoffman's Chevrolet/Chrysler on Edgewood Drive Tuesday, Hagerstown City Police said.

The vehicle is black and a four-door model.

Two Frederick men charged in undercover operation

FREDERICK, Md. - An undercover operation involving officers posing as drug customers resulted in charges against two people Tuesday in the John Hanson Apartment complex, according to the Frederick City Police Drug Enforcement Unit.

John Walter King III, 45, of the 400 block of Carrolton Drive, and Donald Ancel Fenner, 30, of the 100 block of West Fourth Street, were each charged with distribution of cocaine, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of cocaine and three counts of conspiracy, police said.

King was also charged with possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia, police said.

Man facing assault charge relating to Dec. incident

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Chambersburg man was jailed after a 17-year-old was so badly beaten that his eye socket was broken, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Alfonso B. Torres, 18, was charged with aggravated assault in the Dec. 29 incident at 1024 Warmspring Road in Hamilton Township, police said.

Torres was placed in Franklin County Prison on $50,000 bond, police said. He was still in jail Wednesday night.

Pa. couple charged after roadside domestic dispute

FANNETTSBURG, Pa. - A flat tire prompted a roadside domestic dispute Saturday that led to separate charges against a Waterfall, Pa., man and woman, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Melinda K. Neil, 44, was charged with driving under the influence, and Kevin W. Roberts, 34, was charged with aggravated assault, police said.

The investigation began at 11:45 p.m., when police were called to handle a domestic dispute on Pa. 75 at Fannettsburg Road in Metal Township.

Police learned Neil's car was damaged as she crossed Back Road and struck a telephone pole. Neil drove the car further until it became disabled with a flat tire, police said.

While changing the tire, Neil and Roberts began arguing and Roberts allegedly smashed out a car window and struck Neil in the chest with a tire iron, police alleged.

The man grabbed for a trooper's gun while being taken into custody, police alleged.

Charges were filed with District Justice John Weyman.

Roberts was arraigned by District Justice David Hawbaker and was released on $15,000 bail, police said.

Chambersburg woman accused of throwing knife

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Chambersburg woman was charged with throwing a knife at a man Monday, Chambersburg Police said.

Kelly S. Keith, 30, of 237 Linden Ave., was charged with simple assault, police said.

Keith and Derrick Jones, 25, were involved in a verbal altercation that escalated when she pushed her way into his residence at 482 E. Queen St., at 11:55 p.m., police alleged.

A knife was thrown at Jones, striking him in the chin, police alleged.

She went to her car, but before she could leave, the man struck the windshield several times, causing it to break, police said.

Jones was treated at Chambersburg Hospital for the knife wound and cited for criminal mischief in connection with smashing the windshield, police said.

Man wanted on charges turns himself in to police

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - A Mercersburg man wanted on assault charges has turned himself in to Pennsylvania State Police.

Shawn Lee Metcalfe, 22, of 1160 Punchbowl Road, Montgomery Township, surrendered this week and was arraigned before a district justice.

Police had obtained an arrest warrant for Metcalfe on charges of simple assault and harassment.

He was accused of choking a woman during an argument at 11545 Punchbowl Road, then fleeing before police arrived, police said.
