Blue Storm quieted in Duals

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Remember when your parents used to tell you that if you had nothing good to say, then say nothing? Mercersburg Academy wrestling coach Rick Hendrickson couldn't say much about Saturday's 5th Annual Mercersburg Duals.

The Blue Storm won only two of five matches to drop their season record to 4-6.

"We had three overtime bouts in the first match and lost them all,'' Hendrickson said. "Then, we were winning at 189 (pounds) in the second match, but lost by a point in the final seconds and that cost us.

"I told the team that we weren't doing what we needed to do.''

Mercersburg opened the six-team event losing a 36-22 decision to Western Reserve (Ohio). As Hendrickson said, Mercersburg lost three bouts in overtime causing an 18-point swing.

Against Fork Union (Va.), sophomore Nate Fochtman, the most successful Blue Storm wrestler this day, lost his only bout causing a 36-30 loss instead of a 33-33 tie that Mercersburg would have won by criteria - most bouts won.

Fochtman finished the day at 4-1, as did teammates Steve Toddes (119) and Grant Taylor (152). Kenan Wright (125) went 3-2.
