Winter fun

Cross-country skiing

Sundays, Jan. 14 and 21, 1:30 p.m.

Catoctin Mountain Park Visitor Center

Md. 77, three miles west of Thurmont, Md.

Free, but registration is required.

Local outfitters will share experiences and knowledge with beginning and accomplished skiers. While each will provide a slightly different perspective, the same basic information will be presented at each session.

Seminars will be presented regardless of weather or snow conditions. If there is snow, presenters may offer a short demonstration. Participants who bring their own equipment can test their skills before or after the session, but lessons are not included.

Catoctin Mountain Park closes several miles of road to traffic each winter to provide wide, open areas for the beginner to learn the sport whenever there is a dry snow cover of three inches or more.

Reserve a spot for the seminars by calling the visitor center at 1-301-663-9388. Correspondence should be addressed to Superintendent, Catoctin Mountain Park, 6602 Foxville Road, Thurmont, Md. 21788.
