Phone lines cut at State Police barrack
The Maryland State Police barrack south of Hagerstown was without regular telephone service for about 10 hours Friday after a construction crew cut a main telephone line at about noon, state police Cpl. M. Shank said.
Phone service was restored around 10 p.m. The outage didn't affect 911 or other emergency calls, because those calls go to a different location.
Shank said the phone lines and a gas line were damaged by the construction crew. He did not know the name of the crew.
Police officers used cell phones during the outage, he said.
"We've been conducting business all day the hard way," said Shank.
"Thanks to the grace of God it was a quiet Friday," he said.
