Town to discuss joining Register

BOONSBORO - Boonsboro Mayor Skip Kauffman wants to organize a workshop for the Town Council to discuss the possibility of placing the town on the National Register of Historic Places.

Kauffman said he wants Pat Schooley, a local preservationist, to meet with the council in a workshop before bringing the issue to a regular town meeting.

A date is not set for the presentation.

A historic district could make some town property owners eligible for federal, state and local tax credits to fix up their properties, Kauffman said.

Kauffman said he wants to make sure such a district would not place restrictions or burdens on property owners.
