Nelson L. Statler

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Nelson L. Statler, 75, of 456 Lindman Drive, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at his home.

Born Dec. 27, 1925, in Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late Chester C. and Elsie I. Cosey Statler.

He had been a self-employed building contractor in Chambersburg since 1957.

He was a member of King Street United Brethren Church in Chambersburg and the L.R. Rife Sunday School Class.

He is survived by his wife Vivian L. Shoemaker Statler, whom he married Feb. 11, 1948; one daughter, Linda D. Burkholder of Chambersburg; one son, Steven G. Statler of Hampton Cove, Ala.; five sisters, Helen Hoffman and Mildred Mentzer, both of Shippensburg, Pa., Maxine Heckman of Mercersburg, Pa., Phyliss Stouffer of Greencastle, Pa., and Shirley Wingert of Orrstown, Pa.; two brothers, Harold Statler of Carlisle, Pa. and Milton Statler of Chambersburg; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Wilbur Statler.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at King Street United Brethren Church, 172 E. King St., Chambersburg. The Revs. Lester F. Stine and Paul B. Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.

Visitation will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, in Chambersburg, and Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.




Fern M. Springer

Fern Myrtle Springer, 93, of 11 W. Baltimore St., died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Coffman Nursing Home in Hagerstown.

Born May 25, 1907, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lillian Wibberley and stepdaughter of the late Mary Wibberley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor C. Springer.

She retired from Washington County Hospital after 20 years.

She was a member of Christ's Reformed Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Dorothie F. Stout of Hagerstown; one son, Victor J. Springer of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by eight sisters and brothers.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Don R. Stevenson will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Matthew J. Dixon

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Matthew J. Dixon, 20, of 821 Maple St., died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Aug. 5, 1980, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of Troy E. and Karen L. Dixon Snyder of 821 Maple St., Waynesboro.

He attended Franklin Learning Center in Chambersburg for 15 years.

He was a member of Bethel AME Church in Greencastle, Pa.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Larry E. Jackson of Waynesboro; maternal grandparents, Charles E. Sr. and Karen A. Dixon of Greencastle; paternal grandparents, Terry W. and Carol J. Shindledecker Snyder of Waynesboro; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle. L.I.C. Barbara A. Hill will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.

The family will receive friends Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.




William B. Belfoure

WEST BAY, Grand Cayman Islands - William Baldassara Belfoure, 57, of West Bay, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, in a hospital in Coral Gables, Fla.

Born April 9, 1943, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late William and Felicia DeStefano Belfoure.

He was employed by E.J. Fennel Corp. Inc., before moving to Grand Cayman Islands in 1967, where he was a self-employed businessman.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mary Lee Ebanks Belfoure; two daughters, Michelle Belfoure and Trista Belfoure, both of Grand Cayman Islands; two sons, Duane Bodden and Michael Belfoure, both of Grand Cayman Islands; three sisters, Theresa Burger of Clear Spring, Josephine Pusso of Delaware and Rose Fertenbaugh of Waynesboro, Pa.; one brother, Anthony Belfoure of Hagerstown.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Debra Allen.

Services were held Tuesday, Dec. 19, at 3 p.m. at Wesleyan Holiness Church in West Bay. The Rev. John Case officiated.




Richard A. Hess Sr.

FUNKSTOWN - Richard Allen Hess Sr., 57, of 20 W. Poplar St., died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Born May 3, 1943, in Winchester, Va., he was the son of the late William and Maude Brannon Hess.

He was employed by Eastalco in Buckeystown, Md.

He attended Gateway Ministries.

He was a member of American Rod and Gun Club, the Moose in Funkstown, Has Beens Boxing Club, Maryland Boxing Hall of Fame, Waynesboro Tigers Semi-Pro Football and was boxing coach for Hagerstown Boys Club. He was a member and former vice president of Steelworkers Local 7886 and held offices on the Central Labor Council.
