Martinsburg police get new call system

Starting today, the Martinsburg Police Department will implement a new call-answering system during daytime business hours. This system will affect the Police Department's general business phone number, 1-304-264-2100, according to a news release.

This automated system will allow callers direct access to various offices within the Martinsburg Police Department. The system will allow direct contact with the police records/accident reports office, Municipal Court Clerk's office and the Municipal Court Cashier's office. Callers will have access to a directory of officers and employees in order to leave voice mail. Callers will also have the option of speaking with a police dispatcher.

The system will be in operation Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. through 5 p.m., excluding holidays. This system was implemented to give citizens simpler access to information available at the Police Department and also to reduce the demand placed on Police Department dispatchers.

Citizens contacting the Martinsburg Police Department at times other than when the automated system is operational will have immediate contact with a police dispatcher.

As always, callers with an emergency should call 911 directly and not utilize the Police Department business number.
